Nana Berko I and Nana Owusu hold bust at dedication of shrine
For Dr. John Henrik Clarke at the shrine of Nana Abas (2004)In July 1995, a group of sixteen people visited Ghana, hosted by Dr. Na'im Akbar. During that initial Study Tour, Dr. Akbar was enstooled as Development Chief (Nkuosobene) at Abono Lakeside Village at Lake Bosomtwe. He was given the stool name of Nana Owusu Nkwantabisa III. The following year, 1996, Dr. Wade Nobles joined with Akbar as hosts of the Enyimnyam Study Project. During this momentous 1996 visit, Dr. Nobles was enstooled as Nkuosohene of Akwasiho Kwahu and given the stool name of Nana Kwaku Berko I. The Emnimnyam (meaning "radiance of the face") Study Project was intended to be a special development project that was to put into practice Akbar and Nobles' life work in "illuminating the spirit" and "extending the splendor" of African people. The principle of Enyimnyam was rooted in the idea that every person is born with a special "radiance or splendor" which are our unique gifts and talents. Each of us has the responsibility to share those gifts for the collective good of humanity. Rather than a typical travel tour to Ghana, the two Nkuosohenes wanted their African American community to see the Mother land by sharing skills and expertise with Africa.
Since 1995, over 400 people have become Enyimnyam Ambassadors. We have retraced the steps of our ancestors who were captured and enslaved, warehoused and tortured in dismal dungeons, and later shipped to the Americas. We have celebrated the culture and re-connected with our African selves while encountering the realities of African spirituality through its shrines, healers and teachers. We have danced and drummed with the people, studied the production of their crafts, assisted in hospitals, schools, businesses, libraries, rocked the babies and played with the children. We have shared our splendor and received the radiance of thousands or wonderful friendly and caring Ghanaians. With the Enyimnyam ambassadors, we have traveled through 8 of the 10 Regions «states) of Ghana, visited dozens of villages and met thousands of the wonderful and warm people or Ghana.
This announcement is a special invitational to former Enyimnyam Ambassadors to invite their family and friends to come with us to celebrate the Enyimnyam 10th Anniversary.
There will be special activities and new travel and learning experiences for the veteran Ambassadors. Everyone will experience the booming metropolis of Accra, the intriguing traditional city of Kumasi, participate in a high Durbah (festival) at Akwasiho Kwahu, make pilgrimages to the Slave dungeons in Cape Coast and Elmina and numerous other villages, shopping, work and play opportunities. For the newcomers, you will have the opportunity to experience all of the wonderful places and activities that have made the Enyimnyam project unique and exciting for everyone who has attended. This project was established to be a transformative experience for all who participated. When you travel with us, not only will you re-connect with the past that was robbed from you, but you will discover aspects of yourself and mission in life that you never would have imagined. We have had young people to be redirected, young adults to find meaning in their lives, middle age and seniors have found new inspiration and invigoration from the first hand experiences that can only happen in the motherland and most gently in the wonderful land of Ghana.
